RESIDENTS in parts of St Helens lost their water supplies on Wednesday.

United Utilities were called over the issue in the area after households lost their water supply.

Residents in various parts of the town reported a loss of water this afternoon.

United Utilities said the issue affected households in the WA11 and WA10 postcode areas.

The matter was reported to them at around 3pm and they carried out repair works throughout yesterday evening.

A United Utilities statement issued at 3.15pm said: "We're investigating a problem in your area, which may mean you have no water, or low water pressure.

"We're sorry for the inconvenience, we’re working as quickly as we can to get your taps flowing again."

Shortly after 9.30pm, United Utilities confirmed that the repairs to a technical fault had been carried out.

A statement said: "Good news, we’ve now repaired the technical fault in your area and your taps should be flowing again.

"However, it may take up to two hours for your water pressure to return to normal.

"You may also experience some discolouration to your water, this is due to the repair work on the pipe and should clear after a short time."
