FIREFIGHTERS were called to a scrap metal container in flames on the M62 this morning, Friday.

There are delays in both directions between Rainhill Stoops (junction seven) and Tarbock Island (junction six).

Fire crews are currently working to ‘control the blaze’ and North West Motorway Police advise all motorists to avoid the area until further notice.

A statement from North West Motorway Police said: “National highways, police and fire are on scene with a HGV fire on M62 Westbound between seven and six.

"Full closure implemented while fire crews try and control the blaze, please try and avoid area.”
