SINGER Peter Andre was the surprise act at the St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Staff Awards.
The glittering ceremony at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool recognised the outstanding teams and individuals who work at Whiston, St Helens and Newton Hospitals.
Hosted by Pete Price, the annual event saw soap stars and ex-footballers among the guests as the audience heard some inspiring and humorous stories.
Each year the event - which is at no cost to the NHS and is supported through ticket sales, fundraising and donations from partner organisations - secures a big-name act to perform and this year it was Andre, who rose to fame in the 90s, who was unveiled.
His appearance delighted many of the NHS workers who roared with appreciation for the Mysterious Girl singer.
Hundreds reached for their phones to video the performance.
At one point 50-year-old Andre left the stage and headed among the crowds, where he danced on a table and sang for members of the audience.
What a wonderful night last night in Liverpool performing at the M&S Arena for the incredible NHS
