A MOBILE museum full of masterpieces will roll into town to celebrate St Helens’ year as Borough of Culture.

The Art Explora Mobile Museum, in collaboration with Tate and MuMo, is embarking on a ten-week tour across the region.

It is showcasing work from the national Tate collection for the very first time.

The mobile museum, founded by Ingrid Brochard and designed by Matali Crasset, will tour a version of the exhibition Radical Landscapes.

This was shown at Tate Liverpool in summer 2022, featuring works by Turner, Constable, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, John Nash and Jeremy Deller.

The exhibition also includes works by leading contemporary artists including the 2022 Turner Prize winner Veronica Ryan and shortlisted artist Ingrid Pollard.

To celebrate the museum’s arrival in St Helens for Borough of Culture 2023 primary schools and community groups will visit the exhibition during its stay.

Performance art group Boss Morris will also lead a day of dancing in the community.

They have created a progressive vision of Morris dancing to increase social engagement and interest in this unique and ancient English folk dance.

St Helens Borough Council’s cabinet member for Wellbeing, Communities Culture, Councillor Anthony Burns, said: “The Art Explora Mobile Museum is a fantastic concept, making masterpieces created by some of the country’s most famous artists accessible to everyone, and I’m delighted to see it will stop in St Helens, forming a significant part of our Borough of Culture events programme.

The free event will take place on Saturday, April 1 between 1pm and 3pm.
