MP Conor McGinn has shared his response to Earlestown's successful Levelling Up bid.

Earlestown secured £20m from the Government's Levelling Up fund to regenerate the town centre.

The initiative to transform the town centre has been given a boost by the Government fund, which will contribute towards projects including restoring Earlestown's iconic town hall as a new hub and workspace and regenerating the town centre's historic market square.

Discussing the successful bid, Conor McGinn, MP for St Helens North, said: "It’s great news that our joint council-MP bid for St Helens North to the Levelling Up fund has been successful.

"In securing £20m from the Levelling Up Fund for the regeneration of Earlestown, we’re on course to deliver the regeneration plans for the historic market square and reopen the town hall as a new hub.

"The approach we’ve taken as a team of political, business and community leaders is to be ambitious for the whole borough and every part of St Helens, and this good news for Newton-le-Willows is alongside the continuing investment in St Helens town centre and local areas.

"But while welcoming this funding, I’m also clear that it is nothing compared to the huge cuts to local services over the last decade. The Conservatives’ promise to level up our region has failed to materialise.

"The only thing that will truly transform our area, create a thriving local economy, and deliver decent public services is a Labour government at Westminster working with a Labour council and a local MP in St Helens."

Earlestown is among 15 projects in the region to receive grants from round two of the funding, with others including a new university campus in Blackpool and major regeneration of Preston’s parks and Eden Project North tourist attraction in Morecambe.
