EMERGENCY services were called to a collision between a lorry and a car at Windle Island this morning.

At around 9.55am on Wednesday, December 7, police were alerted to a road traffic collision on the A580 East Lancs Road, at the Windle Island junction.

Officers found a lorry had collided with a Suzuki car and briefly closed parts of the road to deal with the incident.

However, no injuries were reported and the road was cleared at around 10.15am.

Motorists reported that some traffic lights around the junction were not working this morning, causing concern to drivers.

It is the second incident in two days at Windle Island, after a single-vehicle collision involving a van was reported close to the Rainford Road junction.

Officers had to close a lane of the East Lancs while they dealt with the incident and clear debris from the road.

The van driver was assessed by paramedics but was not taken to hospital.
