JAMIE Leahey did St Helens proud as he finished runner up in Britain’s Got Talent after a wonderful performance on the show.

The Rainford teenager was in the final three with comedian Axel Blake and singer Tom Ball.

The 13-year-old then went down to the final two, but just missed out on the big prize and a place in the Royal Variety Show as Axel was crowned the winner.

Ventriloquist Jamie had opened the live final with a tremendous routine with puppet Chuck.

After Axel was crowned the winner, Jamie thanked all his supporters and paid a special tribute to mentor Lewis Devine.

The Star’s social media pages have been flooded by readers sending messages of praise.

Earlier in the night, Jamie received another standing ovation from both audiences and the judges for his act.

Speaking to Jamie after his performance, Amanda Holden said: "The whole of the United Kingdom was watching you tonight [and] your entire act was flawless, you should be so proud of yourself."

Simon Cowell said: "You have a real talent, you are really likable, and your material - bearing in mind you only had a few days to put it together - was brilliant.

“You deserve to be here, and as we said earlier, anyone can win the show, and you have got a shot."

David Walliams added that Jamie's performance was "faultless in every way" and told all the other contestants to "go home now".

Alesha Dixon said that Jamie had outdone himself, even surpassing his semi-final performance.
