A SERVING Royal Navy logistics officer will be speaking at a special event at Saints on Saturday aimed at offering advice to former and current armed forces personnel.

Dad-of-one Keiron Molyneux from Thatto Heath, who recently surprised his five-year-old daughter at her school when he returned off a six-month stint in the Middle East, got involved with the group after being concerned for his fellow armed forces colleagues.

After going along and realising the help and support offered at the group, which meet every Thursday, he decided he wanted to highlight to others what the service can do for those who have or who are still serving their country.

Kieron, 30, said: "For me it's the fact that I've seen how people get left after serving for 10 to 15 years and suddenly they leave a structured life where they are told what to do in stressful environments and try to return to 'normal'.

"I came to SAMS because I liked the idea of what they were trying to do, to give servicemen and women a place to go to to seek advice and help, many who leave service get into drink because of depression or PTSD.

"SAMS is really great because it helps them to find ways to help themselves and I just want to help whatever way I can.

"I'm even having training so I can work with counselling in the future, this is really important and I hope by talking about this while I'm still serving will encourage others to come along."

The event, at Saints this Saturday, September 1, will also include food, entertainment a raffle and lots of fun and is aimed at highlighting the issues and help available for armed forces personnel.

Tickets are £20 each and can be purchased by visiting their Facebook page.

Keiron is also joining four other people to climb Ben Nevis on Saturday, September 8 to raise money for SAMS.
