WORKERS at the Royal Mail delivery office in the town centre went on an unballoted strike this morning in support of a colleague who has left the business.
Staff at the site on Liverpool Road, St Helens took industrial action this morning (Tuesday).
The Star understands workers were unhappy over the treatment of one of their colleagues, who has left the business after working there for 20 years.
A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Royal Mail is disappointed that unballoted industrial action has taken place for a short time this morning at St Helens Delivery Office.
"Staff have now returned to work.
"All mail will be out on delivery today but later than normal and we sincerely apologise to customers in the area for any disruption to our service.
“Collections will happen as normal this afternoon and the customer service point is also open.
"Royal Mail is fully committed to resolving concerns of postal workers based in St Helens by following the national jointly agreed framework with the Communication Workers Union.”
