THESE are the two burglars who were caught in the act by CCTV in an early hours break-in over the weekend.

Police made two arrests in the early hours of Sunday after catching the two offenders, who were captured on CCTV, breaking into JD Sports on Church Street.  

Thomas Derrick Taylor, 32, of Woodhurst Crescent, Old Swan, Liverpool and Daniel Yates, 27, of Hughes Avenue, Prescot were sentenced at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Monday.

At around 1.30am the pair burgled JD Sports in Church Street, and were caught on CCTV coverage in the area.

Response officers patrolling the area spotted the two men who were detained after trying to escape following a short foot chase.

Taylor and Yates appeared at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court today (Monday, April 30.)

Both men were sentenced to 12 weeks in prison and ordered to pay compensation. 

Community Chief Inspector Matt Drennan said: "This is an excellent result which shows how quickly we can act on information, apprehend offenders and put them before the courts. 

"Working alongside communities, businesses and partners, we will continue to proactively target those who attempt to commit burglary offences across Merseyside."
