A 22-YEAR-OLD cancer fighter is thanking the community for their astounding support after they raised more than £80,000 towards pioneering treatment abroad.

Chris Carberry, from Rainford, is battling a rare form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma after initially being diagnosed in December 2015.

After treatments did not prove successful, the keen golfer chose to have his left leg amputated in March 2016 – a decision he described as “leg or life”.

He has so far undergone more than 14-months worth of treatment and four operations in his battle with the disease.

Doctors have now told him he has two tumours in his abdomen and potentially others in his shoulder and ribs.

Given the severity and aggression of his most recent relapse, he has began looking at alternative treatments and clinical trials abroad.

Chris, who worked as a builder before the illness, said: “I’m honestly astounded at the support I’ve received.

“Throughout my cancer journey I have had all the support in the world from family and friends, but since we’ve asked the public for help that support just exploded and now I have strangers from all over the world contacting me wanting to help out.

“I’d just like to take the time to thank everyone who’s donated and supported me recently and throughout the last few years. I certainly wouldn’t be in the same position now without them.”

Specialists at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre treating Chris have now opted for a 10-day radiotherapy regime before concluding his treatment. However, Chris is continuing to fundraise for two new pioneering treatments abroad; Dendritic cell therapy in India and T cell treatment in the USA.
