A 15-YEAR-OLD boy with autism has sealed his place at next year’s World Scout Jamboree in America after a tough selection process.

Jack Coxhill from Eccleston is one of six scouts in the borough to be selected to represent the UK at the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia from July 22 to August 2 2019.

It aims to teach the 40,000 youths taking part from across the globe new activities, adventures, about different cultures and teamwork.

This could be especially challenging for Rainhill High pupil Jack, who is a member of the 2nd St Helens Eccleston Scout Group due to being on the autistic spectrum.

His mum Alison Coxhill, 46, said: “Since Jack was diagnosed we have always told him his autism is just another part of him, not something that defines him.

“This is going to be a challenge but he’s really excited to go.

“We are very excited for him and extremely proud because this could be life changing for him.

“I always wanted him in groups to help with meeting people but he just loves it at scouts - so this means everything to him.”

Jack and the other scouts from Haydock, Blackbrook and Eccleston, need to raise £21,000 to help with fund the trip by June 2019 and are holding several events in coming months to reach this target.
