A DAD-of-two has collected hundreds of items, money and supermarket vouchers for homeless people.

Jamie Devine, from Laffak, was inspired to help people forced to sleep rough after learning about the work done by The Hope Centre in St Helens.

After joining forces with the JC’s Gym boxing club on Jackson Street, the 42-year-old brain injury rehabilitation coach has collected 30 bags full of items, including sleeping bags, to help the homeless.

He has also collected £220 for food and £257 in Asda vouchers to give to people sleeping rough via The Hope Centre, on Atherton Street.

Jamie, who has also been helping with the annual Kenzie’s Toy Appeal, said: “After talking to The Hope Centre about its needs and hearing how much it offers to the homeless I had to help, especially as it is getting colder.

“The boxing club backed me all the way and I have been able to get loads of stuff together, including good quality sleeping bags, which makes a huge difference to people sleeping rough.

“The Hope Centre does so much for others so I hope people will start to think about helping it more.

“What I have done is great for now but it needs ongoing support and I am going to continue trying to help.

“I hope by doing this I have shown my children that it is good to help others, especially those less fortunate than you.

“Anyone could end up homeless, so if anyone can help them with things to eat or money then please do.

“I would like to thank JC’s Gym for helping me.”

Some of the money collected will go towards feeding 80 homeless people on Christmas Day.
