A WARNING has been issued about a scam in which offenders pose as police officers and ask victims to withdraw cash from a bank to assist with an undercover operation.
St Helens Police took to social media to warn residents of the con.
They say offenders request the victim to assist them in an undercover operation and then ask them to withdraw cash from a bank that they say they believe is involved in fraud, with staff from the branch involved.
The victim is then asked to hand over the cash to a police officer who will attend their home and they are told that the money is believed to be counterfeit.

THE POLICE WILL NEVER ASK FOR MONEY OR PRIVATE FINANCIAL DETAILS!
Police say another version of the scam has seen victims asked to transfer the cash into a 'safe account'.
In both cases, victims are told not to disclose any information to the bank.
