A SPECIAL school has been honoured with the prestigious ADHD Friendly School award at an annual ball aimed at improving the lives of people with the condition.

Penkford School in Newton-le-Willows collected the award at the ADHD Foundation 10th Anniversary Winter Ball at St George’s Hall in Liverpool on Friday, November 10.

The school has previously been praised for its innovative and imaginative inclusion projects.

Head teacher Julie Johnson said: “I am thrilled to accept the award on behalf of all my staff who work very hard every day to help our pupils overcome their issues and help them achieve their potential.

“What an honour and surprise.

“Half of our pupils are diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and we work closely with the ADHD Foundation and other multi agencies to strive for better outcomes for our pupils.

“We are pleased our hard work has been recognised.”
