Eric Gaskell is known worldwide for his paintings, drawings and linocuts of canalside scenes.

But visitors to his new exhibition at The World of Glass get a chance to sample two other sides of his talent too.

On display along with the canal studies are works that reflect his interest in his family history as well as his love of buildings .

“Structures of every kind fascinate me”, he admits, “whether it’s churches, schools or factories, for example.

Eric, 60, spent five years at the old St Helens Tech back in the 1980s where he both taught and helped create resources for the teaching staff.

He won painting scholarships to New York and Istanbul after leaving art college and has gone on to see his work exhibited as far afield as New York, Quebec, Belgium and Ireland as well as all over Britain.

Every year he stages at least one-man show as well as exhibiting alongside other artists.

“I also sell my work right across the world,” says the Wigan-born artist.

“My canal images are particularly popular with visiting Americans who have come over to enjoy a narrow-boat holiday on our waterways.”
Eric teaches drawing, painting and printmaking and is a member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art, an associate of the RBSA and a member of The Printmakers Council.

His solo show ’Two-Faced’ in Gallery One at The World of Glass has free admission and will run until January 12.
