AN ORGANISATION which supports adults with autism has had its premises renovated thanks to help from members of the Prince's Trust.

The Autism and Aspergers Society relocated to its current base on Hall Street in the spring, although the premises required a lot of work.

And the society has received a helping hand from the Prince's Trust.

Work undergone has included painting the hall and woodwork, decorating rooms including the games room.

Autism affects around 1.4 per cent of the population although campaigners believe the real figure to be higher.

People on the autism spectrum are affected in very different ways and while some live relatively “everyday” lives, others require a lifetime of help.

The society has seen membership increase to around 30 regular members, with more coming in as well.

Stephanie Adams, of the society, said: "When we moved here it needed a lot of work doing and it was something we found very hard to get round to doing. We were delighted and they've worked really hard.

"We had to close for three weeks while it was being done and all our members are ready to come back and see the result."

Team leader at the Prince's Trust Jade Cotter added: "They've done a fantastic job and I think the centre are really happy with the work they've done.

"We're really proud with the work they've done."

The hub is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
