A FRESH appeal has been launched by police after a hit-and-run incident which has left a cyclist with 'potentially life-threatening' injuries.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are searching for a driver who stopped at the scene and may have witnessed the collision between a 48-year-man who was on his Boardman road bike and a car which crashed into the back of him on Warrington Road in Golborne on a road that leads to Newton-le-Willows.

The car then left the scene towards the A580 East Lancashire Road with no description of it or the driver.

A man was arrested in relation to the incident but has since been released.

The victim has been left in hospital where he is being treated for serious facial injuries and multiple body fractures.

The driver police are looking to speak to stopped at the scene before carrying on with their journey with police believing the person may have important information about the incident.

The crash happened on Wednesday at around 10.20pm.

Sergeant Brian Orr of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “The man is a very keen cyclist, but because of his injuries, sadly he may not be able to ride his bike for a long time.

“To leave a man in the road with serious injuries and then flee the scene is disgraceful; this is a fast-moving investigation and we will not stop until we find the offender.

“If you are the person who stopped at the scene, please get in touch as a matter of urgency as you may have witnessed something that could help us catch the individual who did this.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have a description of the car but I would appeal to anyone who was driving in the area and has dash-cam footage to come forward.”
