A STUDENT has been hailed for his quick-thinking actions after he came to the aid of a teenage stabbing victim who had blood pouring from his arm.

Two youths were arrested yesterday following the stabbings in the town centre that left an 18-year-old with a head wound a 16-year-old with an arm injury.

Witnesses have suggested the injuries followed a mass brawl.

Today it emerged welding student Luke Donovan, 19, came to the aid of one of the victims after he noticed a boy staggering close to the Neil Middlehurst funeral directors on Shaw Street.

After noticing blood pouring out of his arm, Luke, from Clock Face, quickly sat him down and took off his own t-shirt to wrap it around the wound and apply pressure. He then alerted police and ambulance.

Luke’s mum-in-law Kerry Bullock said: “He saw this lad staggering and asked if he was OK. He was all over the place and wasn’t sure what was going on.

“Luke was behind him and he turned round and said ‘I’ve been stabbed’.

“Luke said he collapsed against the wall and there was blood pouring from his arm like tap water so he immediately took off his shirt and wrapped it around.

“There were a few around making a kerfuffle but Luke was just trying to help this lad out.”

And dad-of-one Luke also alerted the emergency services and was commended for his efforts.

“The lad looked up and said thank you for saving my life and they took him to the ambulance.

“He had to give his name to police and they took a statement and said to him you did good.”

Kerry, 40, added: “I for one am extremely proud of him.

“I think it has all been a whirl in his head but he’s OK today and has gone into college.”

Both have been taken to hospital for treatment and their condition is described as stable.

Two 16-year-olds, from Huyton and Widnes, have been arrested on suspicion of assault.
