HUNDREDS of people turned up on Saturday to experience the Chilli Festival that took over Church Square and brought plenty of flavour to St Helens.

Several stalls took pride of place where chili producers from around the country sold their products to visitors.

Products included mild to titan slaying extreme chilli sauces, naga cooking sauces, naga dips, chilli pickles, chilli cheese, chilli jam - and chilli ginger beer

Ten contestants took part in Clash of the Titan chilli eating competition which was won by Texan man Scott who had travelled up from Swindon where he is training with the army.

Ant Fildes AKA Bob Wriggles from the Lancashire Hotpots compered the chilli eating competition.

St Helens Council’s Town Centre Manager, Gary Maddock said: “I’m delighted that we are able to host successful events like this which always draw good crowds to the town centre.

“With the introduction of the Clash of the Titan chilli eating competition
at this year's event, the day promised to be even more entertaining, and
that was most certainly the case.”
