A RECORD number of competitors took part in the Handepay St Helens Triathlon on Sunday.

The annual event organised by the Steve Prescott Foundation(SPF) and BeUrBest attracted 250 entrants, including eight teams. 

The special guest starter for the event was Great Britain rugby league legend and SPF ambassador Paul Sculthorpe MBE. 

The first phase of the Triathlon started with a swim in Eccleston Mere with transition to the very testing cycling phase which took the riders on the Shaley Brow challenge on their way to Orrell. 

The second transition was at Rainford High School where competitors completed the running phase.

The recent inclement weather meant tricky conditions, butthankfully the mornig stayed mostly dry to allow safe passage of all competitors.

The event was sponsored by Handepay of Haydock in association with St Helens Community Sport and O2 Business Centre, Rainford took place on Sunday. 

Trophies and prizes were presented by Andy Peake the managing director of sponsors Handepay and Linzi Prescott Trustee of the Steve Prescott Foundation.

Each category winner received a £100 voucher for Thatto Cycles and runners up in the Open Age competitions received a £50 Thatto Cycles Voucher.
