A 48-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault after two men were injured in the town centre on Saturday.
Officers were called to The Green Room on Duke Street at 2am following reports that a 71-year-old man had been assaulted and had suffered an injury to his head.
At 2.10am police were also called to the car park of the Asda supermarket on Kirkland Street to reports that a 49-year-old man had been assaulted and had suffered a head injury.
It is believed the two incidents are connected and a cordon was in place at the Asda site until 10.30am.
Leanne Williams, a taxi driver who was parked in the car park at the time, said: “I saw two men full of blood.
One was arrested once the police came and there was a pool of blood all over the floor.”
The 48-year-old man, from St Helens, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of Section 47 assault and has since been released under investigation to allow for further enquiries to be carried out.
