A PUB near to the scene where a 20-year-old man suffered fatal stab wounds has apologised for "ill conceived" remarks in which they asked people not to leave flowers outside.

Ryan Lamb, died on Wednesday after being one of three men injured in the multiple stabbing, believed to have started on land at the rear of The Phoenix Inn on Sunday, April 23.

The pub out a post on social media yesterday, Wednesday, distancing itself from the crime

The message had read: “While I have every sympathy for the victims of recent events in Bold Street and Liverpool Street; it has nothing at all to do with this pub.

“So please could people stop leaving flowers at the pub for the unfortunate man who has lost his life, his fatal injuries were struck away from its premises thank you.”

The nature of the crime, which saw three victims stagger away from the scene to the Greenbank estate and town centre, saw police cordons spread over large areas, resulting in confusion over where the stabbings had taken place.

The Phoenix's post, which led to criticism on social media, has since been removed, with the pub putting out an apology.

It read: “Further to our ill conceived and badly thought out posts of the last few days we would like to offer a public apology on here for any hurt or offence we have caused to the family and friends who are grieving.

“It wasn't our intention to be offensive but we were naive to think said posts wouldn't be upsetting.

“The posts were removed after a request from the victim's brother was made in person; at which time we were completely unaware of the offence and upset we had caused.

“We know this apology doesn't make up for our errors but we felt it was needed."

This has not softened the angry response from St Helens residents via Facebook.
