PICTURES showing a large quantity of jewellery believed to have been stolen have been released in the hope that the items can be reunited with their rightful owners.

On January 26, a 49-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods after a warrant was executed at a property in Thatto Heath.

He has been released pending a disposal decision.

Following a search of the address, a large quantity of suspected stolen jewellery was recovered and officers are now trying to establish their origins.

Detective constable Jeff Huxley said: "Most of the jewellery recovered is silver and some jewellery is very distinctive and could be of significant sentimental value to those who have lost it.
