A 12-year-old karate kid is looking to raise £750 sponsorship for equipment after qualifying to represent Great Britain at the Malta Open International Karate Championships later this month.

Danni Williams, from Billinge, qualified for the position after winning the UWKE National Championships in Sheffield in November, for the 10 to 12 age category.

The black belt 1st DAN pupil at Musuko Karate Academy in Chorley, has worked her way up the ranks since starting the sport four years ago.

Danni will be joining the British team in Malta for the championships from March 31 to April 1 and is trying to raise money to pay for extra training and expenses.

Her mum Janet, 59 said: “I just feel so proud of Danni who has worked so hard to get to where she is both in karate and in school.

“She’s a natural and just loves karate, choosing to train two to three times a week, in fact she would do more if I let her.

“As you can imagine with European competitions, extra training and kit will mean extra expense so we are trying to raise funds to get Danni to these competitions.

“We hope you will be able to give Danni some encouragement.”

Danni will also be competing for Great Britain at the British Open Championships in London on April 30.

A spokesman from UpHolland High School, where Danni is a pupil added: “"We are extremely proud of Danni and wish her every success in representing Great Britain in Malta and in London next month".
