POLICE are trying to make a breakthrough in their investigation into a suspected arson attack at a house.

Officers were called to Nelson Place, Whiston at 1.15am on Saturday February 4, where they found a blaze at the front door and hallway to the property.

Merseyside Fire service attended and extinguished the fire. It is believed that the fire was started deliberately.

The property was empty at the time of the incident and nobody was injured.

Detective Constable Louise Wood, said: “We will do everything necessary to find those responsible.

“We would like to speak to anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area of Nelson Place on the evening of the fire.

“Fortunately, this fire was caught early but it could have resulted in serious injury and damage.

“Any information no matter how small can be vital to an investigation so I would encourage anyone with information to make contact.”
