BRAVE “little hero” Alex Prescott celebrated his eighth birthday by ringing the end of treatment bell at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

His parents James and Michelle Prescott posted a special video to mark the event, on his Facebook Page Alex’s Heroic Battle, which showed their son proudly receiving a birthday cake after letting people know he is on the road to recovery.

Alex, from Parr, is now in remission from lymphoma, a type of blood cancer and has a successful bone marrow transplant from his little brother James, to help prevent it coming back in the future.

Ringing the bell marks the end of all the big treatment such as chemotherapy and heavy drugs meaning that Alex is now recuperating at home.

His dad James Prescott, 32, said: “He is our little hero, he got through everything with a smile on his face and was braver than I would have been, we are just so proud of him.

“To celebrate his birthday like that was just the best thing, but even though treatment is finished the future is a marathon not a sprint
“He will be on certain medication for the rest of his life and will have to be in semi-isolation for the next six-months but he is home and that is what matters.

“It has been a horrible 18-months but out of that we have seen the true kindness of the community and that is something we have been really grateful for while going through this.

“We can’t thank people enough for their kindness, we just wanted to raise awareness of what children, like Alex, go through not just in hospital but day in day out.

“People really got behind us and we couldn’t be proud of our son or more grateful to the St Helens community.”
