THERE are fears for the future of Sherdley Park golf course and Pets' Corner after the council admitted both sites are under review.
The local authority released a statement to the Star amid growing speculation over the venues.
The council has to trim another £20m from its budgets by 2020 and senior councillors say the overall reduction in its support grant since 2010 is £90m.
A St Helens Council spokesperson said: "These facilities are under review as the council looks to meet financial challenges imposed by a reduction in Government funding.
"As yet though, no decision has been made, but the budget strategy for the council will be considered as part of budget setting for 2017/2018 over the next few months.”
Pets' Corner in Sherdley Park, a favourite with families in St Helens since it first opened in 1965, is home to a variety of animals and is free to the public.
Sherdley Park golf course, which is managed by the council, includes 18-holes and a driving range.
