A BATTLING youngster who will spend Christmas in hospital after being diagnosed with cancer for the second time in a year is to enjoy a special day surrounded by some of his favourite Star Wars characters.

Alex Prescott, from Parr, was originally diagnosed with Pre B Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in August last year and underwent extensive treatment to help him beat the tumour.

After being given the all clear, Alex, aged seven, and his family were devastated to be told it had returned earlier this year.

Battling Alex is due to have a bone marrow transplant in Manchester and will be in hospital over Christmas.

Mum Michelle wanted to help put a smile on his face before his treatment and approached a group which dresses in Star Wars costume to provide a fun treat for her son.

Mum Michelle was told she could host the event without charge with characters including Darth Vader, The Emperor, Boba Fet, Sand Trooper, Jawa and Kylo Ren to be among those at the Glass Horse this Sunday.

"We found out he relapsed at end of July, but he was showing signs four to five weeks beforehand," said mum Michelle.

"It means a lot to us, he went through hell last year and is now going through it again. It doesn't get any easier second time round.

"So for them to do this for us will cheer him up, especially being so close to having his bone marrow transplant in the next couple of weeks.

"We are in Manchester for it for a minimum of eight weeks over Christmas and for his birthday.

"Alex likes Star Wars so when I asked if they could attend and they said yes and for free, well as you can guess, it shows faith in humanity for what people will do to cheer someone up."

The event takes place at the Glass Horse pub this Sunday (November 27) from 1pm to 2pm.
