THERE will be lots of fun in Sherdley Park as a 'Spooky Welly Walk' hits the town for the first time this weekend.

Thousands are expected to descend on the park to take part in Hallowe'en-style antics at the event held by the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Among the ghastly activities will be the chance to strike a pose in the pumpkin patch, dig a gruesome graveyard, race a ferret and meet some owls in the Animal Area, take a ride on the Hallowe’en train, or chance your arm for a prize in vampire blood, witchy worms or Frankenstein slime in the gloopy Yucky Dip.

Alternatively, enjoy a spooky story or take a spin on the fairground rides or have a dance in the undercover disco dome.

The Roy Castle foundation aims to tackle the UK’s biggest cancer killer by funding vital medical research, grants to patients and information and support services.

Jenny Roberts, fundraising manager, said: “We always get great support from people right across the region, and that’s why we’ve decided to launch a second walk at Sherdley Park.

“It’s the perfect location for us. We hope that families from all around the St Helens area will come along and enjoy the Walk. No matter what the weather, mums and dads can be assured we’ll offer a huge range of activities to keep everyone amused.

“Best of all, money raised will go to help us beat this dreadful disease, which we will only do by working together.”

The first St Helens Spooky Welly Walk takes place on Saturday, October 29 at Sherdley Park, starting at 11am and finishing at 5pm.

Walkers can start at any time but should allow themselves at least two hours to complete all the activities and the walk itself.

Entry is £4 for adults and children if booked in advance, or £5 on the day with children under two free.
