A PROJECT has been launched giving people the chance to help shape the future of a community space in Prescot town centre.

As part of the five-year Prescot Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI), Market Place is set for redevelopment in the final and the biggest of three public realm improvements for the town centre.

The space at Market Place is where the commercial town centre meets the Church, churchyard and cemetery, the retail park and people’s homes and can be used for events, gatherings or activities.

With so many options, residents and users of the area are invited to express their thoughts for the space, how it should be used and what they think it should it look and feel like.

Organisers say it is a fantastic opportunity to have a real say in the creation of a community space and potentially give people the chance to see some of their ideas come to fruition in the future.

On Saturday (July 30) an 'Open Design Slam' event takes place. The ideas developed at the workshop and other events throughout the summer will shape the design brief which will be put out as a design competition in autumn. The winning design will be built in late 2017 to early 2018.

The creative workshop will be at Poco Coffee at 10am to 12.30pm.

Meanwhile, youngsters can also get involved in a Young People’s Design Slam for those aged 13 to 18 which takes place at the same location from 2pm to 4pm.

A pop-up exhibition will take place on Saturday, September 3 at a venue to be confirmed from 10am to 2pm.
