FOOTBALL legend Kevin Keegan was at Langtree Park last Friday for night of celebration held by the Steve Prescott Foundation.

The charity hosted the dinner event to mark reaching the £1million milestone in donations since its formation by the late Saints star in 2007.

The organisation helps raise funds for The Christie in Manchester, who treated Steve during his inspirational cancer battle and Try Assist, which supports rugby league players whose lives are affected by serious injuries.

Liverpool legend Keegan, one of Steve's sporting heroes, gave a presentation which featured memories from his career and included many football anecdotes.

The former England international, who began his career at Scunthorpe, won three league titles and a European Cup with the Reds. He was also named European Footballer of the Year in 1978 and 1979 while playing for German club hamburger SV.

An emotional evening saw touching videos played featuring 'Precky and the work of the SPF were shown to guests on the night who included the Prescott family, SPF ambassadors,and supporters.

Britain's Got Talent finalist comedian Leslie Gibson provided entertainment while Pete Emmett compered.

Those present included ex rugby league legends Andy Gregory, Chris Joynt, Shaun Briscoe and Lee Briers, BBC Radio 5 Live’s George Riley. Army veteran Andy Reid also paid tribute to Precky on the night.

And former amateur rugby league player Luke Bryan, from Haydock, who suffered a devastating injury whilst playing and received £80,000 from the SPF to help him move into a specially adapted home, was also there.

Steve's widow Linzi Prescott gave a vote of thanks on the night of celebration which saw another £10,000 raised.
