A GROUP of students from De La Salle school arranged a coffee morning for a group of older people attending a community day centre.

The Year 10 pupils worked hard raising funds for the event by selling more than 200 hotdogs to fellow school students, enabling them to buy a selection of hot drinks, cakes and biscuits which they then served to the group at The Mansion House in Victoria Park.

De La Salle teacher Claire Bullock said: "The students were extremely excited about getting involved and helping their local community.

"We are supporting Age UK Mid Mersey both as part of the Get Set for Community Action and also as part of our Asdan Award Programme."

Later in the day, the pupils, along with Age UK Mid Mersey volunteers, made a start on transforming one of the disused vegetable plots in The Mansion House's kitchen garden.

Age UK Mid Mersey runs 'Positive Living' community day centres across St Helens each weekday, with the aim of reducing loneliness and isolation in older people.
