DETECTIVES are appealing for information following a burglary at a Liverpool Road property.

The burglars made off with two safes containing Rolex watches, jewellery and a large quantity of cash.

It is believed that a dog belonging to the owners had a substance sprayed in its face during the burglary, which happened between noon and 1pm on Tuesday, May 17.

Detective Constable Jeff Huxley said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Liverpool Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously on the afternoon of May 17 to get in touch.

"Similarly I would ask anyone who believes they have been offered the jewellery for sale to contact us."

A dark coloured Audi A6 was seen in the area at the time of the burglary and officers are keen to speak to the occupants as they believe they may be able to help them with their enquiries.

Door-to-door enquiries and forensic testing have been carried out in the area and CCTV footage looked at.

The police enquiry is ongoing and officers have released photographs of some of the jewellery that was taken.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 6013 or the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
