A TEAM of cyclists including former Saints skipper Chris Joynt and Steve Prescott Foundation chairman Mike Denning completed a daunting four-day cycle from Amsterdam to St Helens enduring horrific weather along the way.

A squad of 14 cyclists set out from the Dutch capital covering more than 320 miles before eventually arriving at the Gerard Arms in Dentons Green in aid of autism support.

The challenge saw them take in the historic Netherlands towns of Arnhem and Nijmegen before heading to Rotterdam to catch the overnight ferry to Hull.

Straight from the ferry the team headed to Castleford to meet Saints supporters heading to the fixture against the Tigers before arriving at Leeds.

The last day to St Helens saw them pedal over The Pennines braving steep climbs which combined with torrential rain and wind adding to the test.

Supporters met the cyclists at The Gerard for well-earned refreshments and their endeavours of all will boost the funds of the St Helens Autism Support charity by more than £3,000.

The organisation aims to raise funds and awareness of autism and improve life chances for people diagnosed in the St Helens area.

It is also looking to fund a resource centre to provide education, training and social facilities for the benefit of individuals diagnosed on the autism spectrum and their carers.

Those who too part in the challenge included Barry Ford, Mike Denning, Tom Jackson, Chris Hayes, Jon Hitchen, Brian Wellens, Dom McCormack, Shaun Keenaghan, Chris Joynt, John Kilgannon, Leigh Farr, Jonathan Neill, Colin Edwards

and Sean Casey.
