BRAVE four-year-old leukaemia battler Jacob Smith got to experience life as a fireman.

In March, Jacob was rushed to Alder Hey after a routine blood test and was diagnosed with the illness and began chemotherapy leaving parents Emma and Carl shellshocked.

Jacob, who has been in and out of hospital since having chemotherapy, got to enjoy the day at Parr Stocks station.

Organised by emergency medical technician Adam Lawrenson, a family friend, Jacob got to travel in a fire engine and got to grips with a hosepipe and various firefighting equipment.

Superhero lover Jacob turned up in his Spiderman outfit and was given a specially made fire helmet and suit for the day.

"He loves superheroes so when he found out about coming here for this he was really excited," said Emma, 33.

"Adam has been really good and has really gone out of the way for him."

Emma, who is currently pregnant with her second son, added: "Jacob is doing really well. He didn't respond to the first round of chemotherapy so he is going to haver Regimen C which is the highest one and he'll have it every day and sometimes twice a day.

"He is going to have Regimen C which is the highest one and he will have it every day for three years. He is just very brave and I can never believe how well he's doing. He has really enjoyed today and he even got to squirt Batman!"

Adam added: "I have known Emma for years and we got a job for an emergency transfer and it was for Jacob to Alder Hey.

"Since then I've been in touch with them and that's when we set up a gofundme page to get some money for them.

"Jacob has had a great time today doing this."

A fundraiser has been held at Ruskin Drive on Sunday, May 8 which generated £1,000 for the family.

And on June 18, a charity night will be held at the Rockware in Shaw Street, with Stillia frontman Jack Bennett, DJ, dancers, raffles and auctions. Tickets cost £5 and can be picked up at Classy Cuts salon in Ormskirk Street.

Emma added: "He spent the whole day at a fun day held at Ruskin and it was great to see him being a little boy again.

"We're so thankful and touched by everyone organising all of these events for him, and us."
