A BILLINGE woman who died following a collision with a car in St Helens while out jogging has been named by her employer as 48-year-old school teacher Alison Grace.

The headteacher of Orrell Lamberhead Green primary school, where Alison had worked for more than 20 years, said Alison, from Billinge, was a "very talented" teacher and artist who had a "ready smile".

Alison died at the scene of the collision with a Peugeot 406 at the junction of Birchley Road and Martindale Road shortly before 12.30pm on Tuesday (May 3).

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping police with enquiries but has not been arrested.

Jane Chambers, headteacher at the Wigan school, said: "Alison worked at the school for over 20 years since being an NQT.

"Orrell Lamberhead Green is an outstanding school and Alison made a significant contribution to the school's success.

"She was a very talented and dedicated teacher who was held in respect by all her colleagues and the children.

"She always acted with great integrity and did her best for all children."

She added: "She was a very talented artist and had worked with lots of groups of children to produce pieces of art that are on display in the school today.

"As a PPA (planning, preparation and assessment) teacher, she worked across the school so all the children will miss her ready smile and the care that she showed them every day she was in school."

The head's statement added that Alison was formerly known as Alison Power.

Among the pile of flowers, one of the notes said: "Love and miss you Alison. You changed my life so much. Always in my heart."
