HUNDREDS of mourners turned out this afternoon for the funeral of St Cuthbert's pupil Jessica Davies on an immensely sad day for the town.

People lined both sides of the street outside St Vincent de Paul Church in Parr to pay their respects to the 16-year-old who tragically died suddenly in March.

On a sombre day for the town, which had earlier witnessed the funeral of 21-month-old cancer battler Isaac Haggerty in Blackbrook, many of Jessica's St Cuthbert's schoolfriends were among the crowds.

Jessica's coffin was carried to the ceremony by a white horse drawn hearse which was followed by a limousine filled with flowers.

Heartbreaking tributes were paid to Jessica during the service, as mourners packed out the church.

Some wore special commemorative shirts in memory of Jessica bearing the message "Fly high dear angel".

Before her death Jessica had collapsed during a school exam after suffering seizures. She was placed in a medically-induced coma for 12 days.

An online fundraising page set up by paramedic, David Fitzmurphy who came to her aid, raised more than £4,000 for the funeral.
