A SCHOOL girl from Moss Bank had 12 inches cut off her long hair to raise money for a charity helping children with cancer.

Other than trimming the ends, this was the first time Lucy-Jo Chisnall, nine, has had her hair cut.

So far, the pupil of Birchley St Mary's Catholic primary school in Billinge has raised around £500 for The Princess Trust - a charity which provides real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

Her mum, pre-school manager Norma, 47, said: "She's wanted to do this for a while, she's been reading all about it on the internet. I was the nervous one!"

Lucy-Jo, who has two older sisters, Suzanne, 23, and Louise, 19, enjoys ballet, Morris Dancing and anything sporty in her spare time.

She had her hair cut by Leanne Finney at The Hair Team salon, in Cambridge Road at around 3pm on Saturday (March 5).

Norma said: "They've done a lovely job of it, they plaited it and then cut the plait off, it was about 12 inches in all. Lucy-Jo has lost her baby faced looks but now looks sophisticated with a lovely shoulder length bob.

"I'm so proud of her and would like to thank everyone who has donated so far."
