AROUND 2,000 thousand runners pounded the streets as the GPW Recruitment St Helens 10k run brought street's in the town alive with colour this morning.
Runners, in what is believed to be record field, were met with snow flurries as they gathered at the starting line up shortly before 9am.
But although it was bitterly cold, the showers held off and the sun came out as the runners snaked up and down the ardous course, which includes North Road, Victoria Park.
Jake Littlehales was the overall winner but there were so many strories of individual triumph of adversity, which goes to the very heart of the event that was set up by the late, great Steve Prescott.
This was epitomised by former rugby league player Tony Barrow (above with wife Ann-Marie), who is battling a brain tumour.

He completed the course with wife Ann-Marie and a team of supporters, in what was among the most emotional stories of the day.
There were plenty of mums running too - cheered on by their children on Mother's Day morning.
And the crowds and the volunteers once again added to the occasion, with the words of enocouragement creating the sense of community spirit that makes the St Helens 10k such a strong community event.
