Saints stars including hooker James Roby, Lewis Charnock, Calvin Wellington, Jack Ashworth, Olly Davies and Levy Nzoungou were among those helping the youngsters with their skills.

Meanwhile, media studies students from St Helens College were also in attendance to film parts of the session as part of their own projects.

After the session, the kids were gtaken to Langtree Park and got to see the World Club Challnege trophy, along with the Challenge Cup and Super League trophies, as well as meeting some of the Sydney Roosters stars.

Community development lead at Saints Craig Richards said: “This is a fun day for all the under 11s sides around St Helens and it’s an opportunity for them to work with the first team squad.

“It’s part of our Sky Try programme and they will have some small-sided games as well. They also get the chance to meet the Roosters players.

“This is also our chance to introduce some to local community clubs. That’s a big part of Sky Try, finding different ways to increase participation.”

James Roby, who helped give the youngsters some tips on the day, added: “It’s great to come down and be part of an event like this.

“It makes you think of when we were this age and some here might play for Saints one day. They all know what they’re doing and they have a lot about them.”
