CHILDREN from Wargrave Primary got to grips with some Italian cuisine as part of a class project.
The year one pupils, who have been learning about senses, visited the Ariete Italian Bar and Restaurant in Newton.
They got to explore the senses of taste and smell - and even got to design and make their own pizzas.
The restaurant's manager, Eduardo Carcamo, arranged for the pupils to make the pizzas from scratch, with a range of toppings including cheese and tomato and pepperoni.
The youngsters then sat down to eat their very own crusty creations, enjoying the real restaurant dining experience and were able to expand on their vocabulary by describing what their pizza tasted like.
St Helens Council’s cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, Cllr Jeanette Banks, said: "What a delicious lesson this was, and what a tasty way to engage with business in the community."
