ST HELENS Crematorium was packed out for the cremation of a 95-year-old war veteran last Thursday afternoon (January 28).
Private Philip Hayden, from Kirkby, served in the Kingsguard and fought in Burma during the Second World War.
Following a service at the St Michael & All Angels RC Church in Kirkby, the hearse was greeted at the crematorium by the bagpipes of the Liverpool Scottish regiment and standard bearers from various organisations including the the Duke of Lancaster regiment.
Just after 4pm the cortege was led into the crematorium to 'The Battle's O'er'.
Various representatives from the forces and the mayor of Knowsley were among the dignitaries among the large congregation.
