JOHNNY Vegas and his dad Lol feature in a touching new film to help raise £15m to build a new cancer hospital.

It is a cause close to Johnny's heart after Lol was treated by the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in 2015.

In the film the pair are sat in two armchairs chatting to each other. Johnny says: "Without wanting to scare my dad you hear that word and your initial thought is just to think the worst. Your head goes to some places it shouldn't really go to but that's your natural reaction.

"But it's close to overwhelming really just how positive an atmosphere there was at Clatterbridge considering what they are treating. Thankfully my dad's come through this treatment.

"I'm thankful for the peace of mind you gave us and more time to hear more of my dad's stories." During the film he mouths with a smile: "Over and over again," while Lol starts telling a story about his life as a joiner.

Johnny concluded: "It's absolutely vital we get this money together. It may not have affected you but with cancer we know at some point it will. The charity really needs to raise £15m and if they do so we can ensure this once in a generation project happens.

"You can help transform cancer care not only for our families but for families in the future."

The appeal for the new hospital, which will be in the centre of Liverpool, will provide care for solid tumours and blood cancers for the first time in the city. It will help invest in the hospital's existing centre along with ensuring better care for the most unwell patients.

Cancer is the leading cause of death in the UK and for many cancers the number of deaths is significantly higher in the North West.
