NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS Sea Cadets are holding open evenings to attract new members.

The cadets, aged from 10 to 18, meet for parade nights twice weekly and regularly go away on day trips and week camps to take part in activities on land and on water.

Commanding officer John Unsworth said: “I joined as a cadet many years ago and have gained so much as a cadet and a volunteer. Young people can take part in all kinds of competitions from power boating and sailing, to football, music and drill, plus learn nautical skills as they complete their training.

“Not only will it be fun, but the new skills will definitely give them a head start in life and boost their confidence.”

Young people are invited to come to one of the events, at 9-11 Cross Lane, Newton-le-Willows, WA12 9PT, on Tuesday, October 6 or Thursday, October 8, from 7-9pm.

Any adults interested in volunteering with the unit are also welcome.
