THE family of murdered teenager Jordan Campbell are planning to have a memorial bench installed at one of his favourite spots.

His sister Dannii said they need to raise £1,300 to get the bench in King George V Playing Fields in Haydock by New Year's Eve.

The 24-year-old from Sutton explained: "Initially we had asked for just £500 because we didn't want to ask for the full amount from friends who had donated for his headstone in January. But so far we have raised just over £300 through our web page.

"My sister-in-law Lois Lomax will also be doing a charity bungee jump in September to help raise money. We are also trying to organise a fun day at the end of summer."

Three men are due to be sentenced on Wednesday (July 29) for Jordan's murder who died in a brutal and unprovoked assault in a flat on Tickle Avenue in Parr following a New Year's Eve party.

Daniel Wiltshire, 26, from Wargrave Road in Newton and Ruben Hoather, 22, had earlier pleaded guilty to murder and a third man, Anthony Wood, 32, from Elephant Lane in Thatto Heath, who denied being involved was found guilty following a nine-day trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

Dannii said they are hoping to get the bench in place by New Year's Eve, a year since his death.

She explained: "It would give his friends to go back there and hold a vigil if they wanted to. He had so many friends but a lot can't get to his grave.

"We chose that spot because mum always walks round there and it's where he spent all his time. He used to play rugby for Haydock on those fields. It meant a lot to him and his friends. We already have initial permission to put the bench there. We were told we would have to buy the bench through the council, but because it won't have a base, which will need to be dug out, it costs £1,300.

"It would be nice if the council could donate something towards it because it is for the community. We were going to have a bench in the cemetery but you wouldn't have been able to see his grave from where it would have been."

Dannii thanked friends and family who have offered their support since Jordan's death and she is expecting a large number of people in Liverpool Crown Court for the sentence.

She said that Wood's conviction was "the first stage of justice". "When he was found guilty we were so relieved. It was as if all the weight had gone off our shoulders."
