THIS is Tilly, Tom and Tiny the new additions to the family of capybara's at Knowsley Safari Park.

New mother Sheila gave birth to the triplets mid-April and the youngsters have quickly found their feet. Visitors to the attraction can see them exploring their new habitat around Mizzy Lake and following in the footsteps of older brother and sister Smudge and Sprout.

Native to South America the capybara is a semi-aquatic animal classified as the largest rodent in the world. Weighing in at up to 150 pounds and growing up to a metre long they are excellent swimmers and can remain completely submerged for up to five minutes.

Stephen Cunningham team leader at Knowsley said: “We have been monitoring the family since the pups’ birth and they are all doing really well.

“Capybara's love to swim, and our family are able to wander over to Mizzy Lake here at Knowsley Safari to take a dip. 2015 has been a busy year for capybara babies - there must be something in the water!”

Families can spot the pups when taking a ride on the Equatorial Express, gently rowing the boats on Mizzy Lake or simply strolling through Knowsley Safari’s walk around area.
