A SAINTS season ticket holder has expressed disgust at the foul language hurled at players by some supporters during the side's humbling defeat to Leeds Rhinos on Friday.

David Hughes was moved to write to the Star after being shocked at the abuse shouted in front of children at Langtree Park's West Stand terrace on a dreadfully disappointing night for Keiron Cunningham's side.

Saints were defeated 16-41, their fourth defeat in five games after a cruel run of injuries, but are still second in the Super League table, although now trailing the Rhinos by six points.

In a letter, David wrote: "Whilst not being a snob or prude I consider myself to be open minded and have had a season ticket at Saints, at Knowsley Road and now Langtree Park.

"On Friday at the Leeds game I was shocked and disgusted at the foul language used by 'Saints Supporters' directed at two players in particular.

"While Saints were not at their best and beaten by a better team on the night this was no excuse for the language being used.

"I attend with my son, a young adult who was also upset. Around us in the West Stand were young children and women as well. I have been encouraging my wife to attend but now I am unsure.

"It made me feel like leaving the stadium as I couldn't attract stewards attention to this fact. Perhaps, I should have left early.

"If the language was a result of alcohol or not it is not acceptable in a family sport. I also wonder whether these so called 'Saints Fans' react differently when we reach Grand Finals, etc.

"I was upset and ashamed of these so called fans and although I am sure nothing can be done about this I felt I had to send this email."
