A DAREDEVIL student nurse will leap out of an aeroplane at 10,000ft with her nan very much at the forefront of her mind.

Laura Emmerson, 21, is taking part in the sponsored skydive to raise money for the Clatterbridge Centre which cared for her grandmother Veronica while she underwent treatment for breast cancer last year.

The 73-year-old has now been given the all-clear but Laura, who is from Eccleston, said she was determined to help raise funds for the organisation which helped care for her.

The former Rainford High student who will qualify as a nurse at the end of March works at Whiston Hospital. She said she was looking forward to the skydive which also takes place at the end of next month.

“I’ve never done anything like this before. My nan is the inspiration but I’m also doing it just for the fun to be honest I have lost a bit of weight recently, four stone in six months, and have been doing more active things. It’s a new health regime.

“I did a Tough Mudder last year and will be doing the St Helens 10k next month. I have set a target of raising £400 but I’ve got just less than £100 so far.

“I’m not scared of heights but I’ve not really thought too much about it. My family has been really encouraging but my mum wasn’t too keen at first.”
