THESE cute balls of fluff are the latest additions to Knowsley Safari Park which has welcomed two new Capybara pups.

Smudge and Sprout arrived just four weeks ago and have been staying close to first time parents Mrs Brown and Benny as they explore the park’s Equatorial Trail.

Native to South America, the Capybara is a semi-aquatic animal and the largest rodent in the world. Weighing in at 150 pounds and growing up to four feet long, they are excellent swimmers and can remain completely submerged for up to five minutes.

Craig Scott animal keeper said: “Mrs Brown and Benny arrived at Knowsley Safari in summer 2013 and it wasn’t long before love blossomed between the pair.

“Mum and babies are doing well and settling into family life. Visitors will be able to take a ride on the Equatorial Express and keep a sharp eye out for the pups as they learn to swim in Mizzy Lake.”

Visitors will be able to visit the new arrivals from this Saturday (February 14) as spring opening hours begin.
